Technique is not an extra for advanced athletes; it is the foundation for strength, speed and conditioning. At CrossFit Gorinchem you learn technique in regular classes, Olympic Weightlifting and, when you want more specific work, one-to-one coaching.

The 9 foundational movements of CrossFit

CrossFit uses nine foundational movements as a teaching model. They are grouped into three families. Squat: air squat, front squat and overhead squat. Press: shoulder press, push press and push jerk. Deadlift: deadlift, sumo deadlift high pull and medicine-ball clean.

These progressions move from simpler to more complex and repeat common principles such as midline stability, sound hip function, active shoulders, full range of motion and core-to-extremity movement.

Why the basics help with difficult skills

A good front squat helps with receiving a clean. A strong overhead squat builds a base for the snatch. The push jerk teaches leg-to-arm timing used in the jerk. The deadlift teaches force production from the floor.

Technique work does not always need to look spectacular. A small correction in a basic position can make a major difference in a complex lift later.

Snatch: one movement from floor to overhead

The snatch is one of the two Olympic lifts. The barbell travels from floor to overhead in one fluid movement, demanding timing, speed, mobility, stability and positioning.

We therefore build the snatch using drills, light loads and repetition. The best technique is not created by going heavy immediately, but by learning reliable positions first.

Clean & jerk: strength and technique in two parts

In the clean, the barbell travels from the floor to the shoulders; in the jerk, it moves from the shoulders overhead. The combination demands full-body strength, power and precise timing.

In one-to-one technique coaching we can isolate components: start position, first pull, extension, receiving position, front squat, dip-drive and split jerk. That helps identify where your biggest improvement lies.

One-to-one technique coaching at CrossFit Gorinchem

If you want to learn a specific movement faster or keep running into the same technical issue, Personal Training can be used as a technique pathway. This can cover the nine foundational movements, pull-ups, handstands, snatch, clean, jerk or other CrossFit skills.

Where useful we use video, clear drills and a concrete plan you can continue in regular classes. Contact us for an intake so we can prioritize the right movements.
